Home School Liaison

“When parents and teachers work together children are the winners…”

My name is Audrey Kindregan and I have been the Home, School, Community, Liaison Co-ordinator in Scoil an Chroí Naofa since February 2009. My primary role in the school is linking Parents, School and Community in order to maximise the benefits of education for your child. Parents, the task is to work together with you, as part of a whole-school approach, for the ultimate well-being of your children.

Every term I run a number of courses for parents such as yoga, English language for parents, computer classes and helping your child with homework. In addition to the parent courses, my job involves inviting parents to participate in and facilitate school activities in areas such as maths through Maths for Fun and English through Literacy for Fun.

I makes regular home visits in order to improve contact with the school and to support families who might have a particular need, for example an illness in the home, which might affect their child’s performance in school. Also parents are welcome to drop in to see me in the Parent’s Room (located beside the principal’s office) for a chat, a cuppa or some support and advice and no appointment is necessary.

Through my work in the last couple of years I have forged vital links with numerous community agencies in Ballinasloe. These include the Family Support Service, HSE, Speech and Language therapy unity, Brothers of Charity, the Community Gardaí, National Education Welfare Board and the Visiting Teacher for Travellers. If you as a parent have any queries or concerns in relation to things which may affect your child’s ability to perform or involve themselves to the best of their ability in school then I am available to offer advice on appropriate services.
