History of the School

The Sisters of Mercy came to Ballinasloe in 1853 to educate the girls of the town. St. Grellan’s Boys’ Primary School was built in 1937 to cater for the boys. In 1996 both schools were amalgamated. Scoil an Chroi Naofa was chosen as the name of the new amalgamated school – The School of the Sacred Heart.
