Home School Community Liaison

"When parents and teachers work together children are the winners..."

A child under 16 years old spends 85% of their time either in the home or in the community. So for the 15% of those waking hours spent at school by your children. You as parents can help us, as teachers; do a better job here in school for your child! Here at Scoil an Chroí Naofa we recognise you, the parent as the primary educator of your child and as your HSCL coordinator I am constantly looking at ways to support you, to enable you, to support your children.

In my role as HSCL Coordinator my primary contact is made with parents through home visits. But I also have a 'Parents Room' in the school situated beside the principal's office where parents are always welcome to drop it any time for a chat, a cup of tea or some support and advice.

As well as home visits, I also organise coffee mornings and courses for parents here in the school, such as the upcoming Coffee mornings on 24th March and 28th April and the Aerobics classes starting in April 2009. The courses I intend running will not only help you to learn new skills and increase your self-esteem, but also give you the opportunity to meet other parents and have important time to yourself. All courses and events run by the HSCL are free of charge.

Did you know that here in our school parents are particularly encouraged to take an active role in the school community? At present several parents are actively involved in many school initiatives such as Maths for Fun and The Incredible Edible Challenge. I am continuously seeking parents to take part in activities within the class environment.
